Coach transfers at Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE)
At Venice Marco Polo, the airport end is easy. The hard part is the destination. Piazzale Roma and Tronchetto sit inside the ZTL BUS area, and the coach needs an AVM pass to reach them.
PBus and the controlled traffic zone
Venice Marco Polo has one main passenger terminal. On its north side is PBus, the parking area for commercial coaches. The airport's controlled traffic zone is open to coaches and to chauffeur (NCC) cars, and passengers load inside the airport car parks. The zone's 10-minute limit does not apply to tourist buses.
A car or small van can load in Sosta Breve, the short-stay car park, where the first 20 minutes cost nothing. That is enough for a small party that is ready to go.

The AVM pass for the ZTL BUS area
Any tourist coach going into the ZTL BUS area has to show an AVM pass. Without one, a coach may only transit, on the Mestre bypass or the airport link road. For most groups the pass is not optional. Ask the operator to confirm it is arranged for your date and time.
ZTL check-in points have staff on duty between 06:00 and 20:15. Outside those hours the pass has to be bought online, so a late arrival needs it sorted in advance.
Piazzale Roma, Tronchetto and the People Mover
The drive to Piazzale Roma is about 13 km and takes 20 to 30 minutes. Once inside ZTL BUS, a coach may stop only at authorised boarding areas or in dedicated coach car parks. A coach may park at Tronchetto for 1 hour at most, and the People Mover connects Tronchetto to Piazzale Roma. Beyond that point the historic centre is on foot or by boat. Tell passengers to pack for bridges and steps.
Mestre hotels and the Treviso option
A lot of groups book hotels in Mestre, on the mainland. Ask the operator how the coach will reach your hotel, and whether that route needs the pass. Some groups fly into Treviso, about 40 km from Venice. The ZTL BUS rules apply the same way at the Venice end.
