Euro VI and the environmental zone

In the environmental zone covering Copenhagen and Frederiksberg, a diesel bus needs Euro VI or a fitted particle filter. Number-plate cameras enforce this, and foreign vehicles are treated the same way. Since 1 March 2025 the zone reaches the Tårnby municipal boundary, which takes in the airport side of the city.

If your coach is coming from abroad, it must still comply. The operator confirms the vehicle meets the rule before you book.

Rules for buses in Copenhagen

Where a coach can stand, by day and by night

Between 07:00 and 19:00, buses follow the same parking rules as cars. At night, 19:00 to 07:00, only signed heavy-vehicle spaces are allowed. Many of the tourist-bus spaces are set aside purely for drop-off and pick-up.

So a daytime visit to Tivoli or Nyhavn is simple to arrange. An evening dinner is different: the coach needs a signed heavy-vehicle space, which may not be next to the restaurant. Plan the collection time and tell everyone where to walk.

Kastrup arrivals all come out at Terminal 3

Kastrup is about 8 km out, and the drive to the centre takes 15-30 minutes. Arriving passengers clear customs and then all leave through the same place, the Terminal 3 arrivals hall. The Terminal 3 forecourt handles pick-up and drop-off, while coaches stop outside Terminals 2 and 3.

That makes a group arrival simpler than at most airports: one exit, one meeting point, one place to count heads.

Kronborg, Roskilde and a crossing to Malmö

It is about 45 km, 45-60 minutes, to Kronborg Castle at Helsingør. Roskilde and Frederiksborg Castle at Hillerød are closer. Malmö across the Øresund Bridge is about 40 km. A coach with driver can link Kronborg and Frederiksborg in one day and still be back for dinner.

On a match night at Parken or a concert at Royal Arena, fix the collection point before the event starts, not after it ends.

Can a coach wait outside a restaurant in the evening?

Only on a signed heavy-vehicle space after 19:00. The driver parks there and comes back for you.

Does a Swedish or German coach need to meet the same rules?

Yes. The zone applies equally to foreign vehicles.

Is a coach useful for a congress at Bella Center?

Yes. Bella Center is in Ørestad, so a set morning and evening loop from the hotel keeps the group together.

Can we go to Malmö and back in a day?

Easily. It is about 40 km, 40-60 minutes each way over the bridge.
