When a full coach is the right call

Choose a full coach when the group is too big for a midi coach, when everyone has luggage, or when the trip runs over several days. Typical seating is 49 to 57. The underfloor bays take large cases; on a 13 m Tourismo they hold about 12 m³. One vehicle means one driver, one pickup point and one timetable, which is simpler than splitting a group across smaller vehicles.

The driver holds a category D licence. On long days, those rules cap how far one driver can take you, and the operator plans around them.

Where a 12 to 14 m coach cannot go

Cities restrict coaches by length, weight and emissions. Vienna bars coaches from the Innere Stadt. Prague lets them into its historic centre only by exception. Amsterdam asks for an exemption before anything above 7.5 tonnes crosses into the S100 ring. Barcelona asks for a daily Zona Bus permit. At Berlin Brandenburg, the 3.5-tonne cap on the terminal pick-up zones sends coaches to Bus Stop B.

None of this rules a coach out. It means the coach sets down at the edge and the group walks the last part. Plan that into the day, and pick hotels with coach access where you can.
