What the Florence contrassegno means for your coach

The ZTL Bus here is not a small zone around the Duomo. It covers all of built-up Florence, day and night. A tourist coach needs a contrassegno bought online before it enters, and the pass must be on display. Enforcement is by camera, in place since 1 July 2025, so nobody talks their way past a checkpoint.

The operator buys the contrassegno for the vehicle and date. Give us your times and every stop you intend to make, because permit and route are planned together. Changing plans on the morning is harder in Florence than in most cities.

Four coach stops, and which ones work for a pick-up

There are four named stops where coaches may set down and collect: Largo Vincenzo Giudice, Savonarola, Piazza Vittorio Veneto and Piazzale Michelangelo. At Savonarola the coach can only drop off, so never plan a collection there. Piazzale Michelangelo takes coaches at any hour, for 20 minutes at most. That is a photo stop, not a waiting room.

Walking from a stop to the Uffizi or the Accademia takes real time. Build it into your timed museum entries and warn anyone slow on their feet.

Where the coach goes while you are in the Uffizi

Between set-down and pick-up the coach waits in a car park. Viale XI Agosto (T2 Guidoni) is open round the clock; the others are via Palazzeschi, Campioni del 56 and Piazzale Galileo. It cannot circle or idle at the kerb. Fix a collection time and keep to it.

Since 15 November 2025 the penalty for one parking fine has been a 7-day stop on permits for every vehicle the operator runs. A good driver will not bend the rules to save you a short walk. Do not ask.

Peretola, Pisa and the Tuscan day trips

Peretola, Florence's airport, is a short run of about 5 km, taking 15-25 minutes. In arrivals, the airport bus station has four yellow-striped bays where coaches load. Groups landing at Pisa face about 85 km instead.

Day trips are where bus hire from Florence earns its keep. Greve in Chianti lies about 30 km off. Allow roughly 60 to 75 minutes each for Pisa, Lucca, Siena or San Gimignano. Put two of those in one day and the driver's hours and breaks start to shape the timetable.
