Working the day around the Acropolis time slot

The Acropolis runs on timed-entry tickets, and that slot is the fixed point of your day. Build the coach schedule backwards from it: hotel pick-up, drive, walk to the gate, and a margin for security.

The Acropolis Museum is below the south slope, and Plaka is the historic quarter below the Acropolis. The Ancient Agora is near Monastiraki. The Panathenaic Stadium near Syntagma and the National Archaeological Museum are better treated as separate coach legs.

Pick-up at Athens International Airport

From the airport to Syntagma is about 33 km, 35-60 minutes. Pre-booked vehicles collect passengers beside Short Term 1 parking, or else in the pick-up zone, which is on the Arrivals level. Until then, they wait in the airport Retail Park, in an area set aside for them.

The barrier-controlled kerb zones give 10 minutes free for pick-up and drop-off. That is tight for a large group with bags, so the coach comes forward from the waiting area once everyone is through and together.

Piraeus, conference venues and the Riviera hotels

Many groups combine Athens with a cruise from Piraeus. Between the port and the airport it is about 45-50 km, 45-60 minutes. Hotels on the Athens Riviera at Glyfada and Vouliagmeni are further out than Syntagma or Plaka, so allow more time for each run into town.

The Megaron conference centre is in central Athens. The Metropolitan Expo is next to the airport, which suits a fly-in, fly-out event.

Delphi, Sounion and Mycenae: long days on the road

Cape Sounion is about 70 km and the Corinth Canal about 80 km. Nafplio and Mycenae are about 2 hours away, and Delphi about 2.5 to 3 hours. Daily driving is limited to 9 hours, or to 10 on no more than two days a week, and a 45-minute break must come after 4.5 hours at the wheel. Delphi and back fits, but not with three other stops.
