Coach Hire in Brussels Under the Low Emission Zone

Brussels sets its coach rules through one low emission zone that covers the whole region. Get the vehicle right and the rest is about which stop zone to use.

The LEZ covers all 19 municipalities

The LEZ takes in every one of the Brussels-Capital Region's 19 municipalities. The R0 ring is excluded, so a coach on the R0 is outside the zone. Buses and coaches with Euro 5 diesel engines have been banned from the zone since 1 January 2026. The operator has to send a newer vehicle.

Foreign-registered vehicles must register before entering the LEZ. If your coach is coming from outside Belgium, the operator handles that before the trip. Ask them to confirm it in writing with the quote.

Rules for buses in Brussels

  • LEZ covers all 19 Brussels-Capital municipalities; the R0 ring is excluded.
  • Since 1 January 2026 Euro 5 diesel buses and coaches are banned from the LEZ.
  • Foreign-registered vehicles must register before entering the Brussels LEZ.
  • Short-stop coach zones (max 30 min): Boulevard de Berlaimont near Central Station.
  • Medium-stop zones (max 5 hr): Rue Ducale, Avenue de Bouchout, Boulevard Pachéco.

Short stops and medium stops in the centre

For a quick set-down for the Grand-Place, use the short-stop coach zone by Central Station, on Boulevard de Berlaimont. It allows 30 minutes at most. That is time to unload, not to wait.

For a longer visit, medium-stop zones allow up to 5 hours. They are on Boulevard Pachéco, on Avenue de Bouchout, and on Rue Ducale by the Royal Palace. The coach parks there while you walk the old centre and the Magritte Museum on the Mont des Arts.

Heysel, the Atomium and Brussels Expo

At Heysel, coaches park behind Mini-Europe for the Atomium. Brussels Expo is on the same site. On a big trade show day, plan a fixed meeting point and allow for everyone leaving the halls at once.

For EU institution visits, the Parlamentarium in the European Quarter suits school and civic groups. Book entries first, then fit the coach around them.

Zaventem, Charleroi and the Level 0 bus station

Brussels Airport lies about 12 km from the city, a drive of 20-40 minutes. A chauffeur meets passengers inside the arrivals hall. Organised coaches depart from the Level 0 bus station, reached by a covered walkway of about 100 m, and the Bus signs show the way. Charleroi is about 55 km out, so allow more time for that run.

Can we do Bruges in a day?

Yes. It takes 1 to 1.5 hours each way to cover the roughly 100 km to Bruges. Ghent and Antwerp are closer, and Waterloo is about 20 km.

Our coach company is based in another country. Can they drive into Brussels?

Only after registering the vehicle for the LEZ, and only if it is not a Euro 5 diesel.

Where does a coach park for a long visit to the centre?
