Prague keeps coaches on the edge of its heritage zone. The coach sets you down at a perimeter stand, and the rest of the visit is on foot.

Prague's perimeter stands, not the Old Town

Unless the city grants an exception, the historic centre is closed to coaches. Paid stands ring the heritage zone, and those are where coaches set down and pick up. The stands are metered daily from 08:00 to 20:00.

There are two kinds. At a K+R set-down stand the limit is 15 minutes. A long-stay stand gives 4 hours, which covers a half-day in town without the coach leaving.

Prague Castle from Mariánské hradby or Dlabačov

For the Castle, coaches stop at Mariánské hradby or Dlabačov, and the walk takes about 5 minutes. Groups heading for the Astronomical Clock and the Old Town Square use nábřeží Edvarda Beneše, roughly 10 minutes away on foot.

One workable plan: set down at the Castle in the morning, walk down through Malá Strana and over Charles Bridge, and meet the coach again at nábřeží Edvarda Beneše. The coach moves while you walk.

Rules for buses in Prague

Coaches are banned from the historic centre unless an exception is granted.
Coaches use paid stands on the heritage-zone perimeter to set down and pick up.
K+R set-down stands: 15 minutes maximum; long-stay stands: 4 hours maximum.
Coach stands are charged daily 08:00-20:00 via parking meters.
Castle-area coach stops: Mariánské hradby and Dlabačov; Old Town: nábřeží Edvarda Beneše.

Fifteen minutes at a set-down stand

A 15-minute stand is for getting people on or off, not for waiting. Keep the group together at the stand before the coach arrives. Older travellers need more time to board, so tell us if that applies and the operator can plan a long-stay stand instead.

Václav Havel Airport

Schengen flights use Terminal 2; non-Schengen flights use Terminal 1. Right in front of both arrival halls are the car pick-up points, and airport dispatchers help at the exits from 07:00 to 21:00. The airport does not publish a coach staging area, so where the coach stands is agreed with the operator for each booking. The Prague City Tourism Visitor Centre in the Terminal 2 arrivals hall is an easy landmark to meet at. The drive to the centre is about 18 km, 25 to 45 minutes.

Kutná Hora, Terezín and Český Krumlov

Terezín is under an hour and a quarter. Kutná Hora takes about an hour. Český Krumlov needs 2.5 to 3 hours in each direction, so it is a long day.

Can the coach take us to Old Town Square?

No. Its stop for the square is nábřeží Edvarda Beneše, and the walk from there takes about 10 minutes.

How long can the coach wait at a stand?

15 minutes at a K+R stand, up to 4 hours at a long-stay stand.

Is Český Krumlov a day trip?

Yes, but a long one: about 170 km each way.

Do we pay for the coach stand?

The stands are metered daily from 08:00 to 20:00. The quote says whether parking is included.
