Getting a coach up to Buda Castle with a BABU permit

Entering the Budavár protected zone takes a permit, and you can only get one through the BABU system. The permit comes with a route. The coach must follow the route approved in BABU, and a deviation brings a surcharge.

So decide the castle visit early. The operator applies for the permit for your date and time, with the route in and out. Last-minute changes do not fit this system well.

Fifteen minutes inside the Castle zone

Inside the Castle protected zone, a coach may stand for 15 minutes, and only to let people off or on. Overstaying also brings a surcharge. Your group should be waiting at the stop when the coach pulls in, with the guide counting heads, not still taking photos at Fisherman's Bastion.

If a 15-minute window feels too tight, use Ybl Miklós tér as the set-down instead and let the group walk from there.

Where the coach parks for a Castle District visit

Coaches park in designated spaces on Attila út, Palota út and Alsó Mészáros utca. The driver waits there while you walk the Castle District and Matthias Church. Parliament tours are on the Pest riverbank, so plan the river crossing once rather than doubling back.

For conferences, HUNGEXPO in the 10th district hosts the big trade fairs. On a match or concert day at Puskás Aréna or the MVM Dome, agree a meeting point away from the main exits.

Airport arrivals and the Danube Bend

Budapest airport is about 20 km out, 30-50 minutes. The Bus Terminal, 1-2 minutes from Terminals 2A and 2B, is where tourist buses collect groups. The first 10 minutes there are free, and the separate Bus Parking handles longer waits.

Szentendre is about 20 km up the Danube and Esztergom about 65 km. Lake Balaton at Balatonfüred is 1.5-2 hours. Vienna is about 245 km, a real option for a coach with driver on a two-city trip.

What if our castle visit runs late?

The coach cannot stay in the zone past 15 minutes without a surcharge. Meet it at the coach parking or at Ybl Miklós tér instead.

Can the driver take a different road up to the castle?

No. The coach follows the route approved in BABU.
