Coach Hire at the Port of Venice
Venice cruise ships now use different terminals depending on their size. Your coach plan starts with finding out which one your ship uses.
Ship size decides the terminal
Marittima and San Basilio take only ships of 25,000 GT or less, under Decree-Law 103/2021. Anything larger berths at the Fusina terminal or at the Porto Marghera quays. Check your cruise documents or ask the line, then pass the terminal name to the operator.
This matters because the three sites are reached differently. A coach booked for Marittima is no use to a group standing at Fusina.
Ground transportation at the port
- Under Decree-Law 103/2021, only ships up to 25,000 GT may use Marittima and San Basilio.
- The People Mover links Tronchetto, the Marittima area and Piazzale Roma.
- Coaches are subject to Venice ZTL BUS rules; Fusina has an authorised coach car park.

Fusina and Marghera: the coach side
Coaches serving the port are subject to Venice ZTL BUS rules. Fusina has an authorised coach car park, so the coach can wait there for a group coming off the ship. If the route enters the ZTL BUS area, the operator needs the AVM pass for the vehicle.
Give the operator your disembarkation time and the time you expect to clear with bags. They plan the coach arrival from that.
Marittima, the People Mover and Tronchetto
For smaller ships at Marittima, the People Mover connects Piazzale Roma, the Marittima area and Tronchetto. Coaches can stay at Tronchetto for an hour at most, so the coach loads and leaves rather than waiting all afternoon.
Groups spending a day in the city before or after the cruise often base themselves in Mestre, where a coach is easier to use. Check with the operator whether the hotel falls within the ZTL BUS area.
Marco Polo transfers
The drive from the port to Marco Polo is about 15-20 km, 20-35 minutes. At the airport the coach uses the PBus area.
The 10-minute limit in Marco Polo's controlled traffic zone does not bind tourist buses, which helps when a flight is late. If your flight lands at Treviso instead, allow for about 40 km.
