Minibus or coach: the licence question
For a minibus with 16 passengers at most and a length of 8 m or less, a D1 licence is enough. Anything bigger that carries over 8 passengers calls for a full category D. Kit, bags and luggage space
Kit bags are bulky. A minibus has a rear luggage compartment; a full coach has underfloor luggage bays. For a squad with full kit, a coach with half its seats empty can beat a packed minibus. Tell the operator how many kit bags you carry, and whether any equipment is long or heavy.
Match days and stadium access
Grounds handle coaches differently. Munich's Allianz Arena comes with dedicated coach parking. In Florence, the coach park near Stadio Artemio Franchi closes on event days. In Barcelona, any vehicle with 9 or more seats needs a daily Zona Bus permit. Ask the operator how the vehicle reaches the ground and where it waits during the match.
Build in slack. A late arrival at the ground eats into warm-up time, and match-day traffic can be heavier than usual.
Tachographs and long away trips
Tachograph data gets checked both in roadside stops and at operators' premises. That works in your favour: the driver's hours are on record. On a long away trip, breaks and rest limit how far one driver can go, so an overnight stop or a second driver may be needed. Settle this with the operator before you fix a departure time.
